Kerri Rawson Career & Books

Kerri Rawson is a writer who specializes in autobiography, biography, Christian literature, true crime, and autobiographical writing. On January 29, 2019, she released her first book, “A Serial Killer’s Daughter: My Story of Faith, Love, and Overcoming.” Following Kerri’s discovery that her devoted father is a serial killer, the 366-page Religion, Christian Living, and Inspirational (biography and autobiography) book was published by Thomas Nelson (2019).

Kerri examined her shock and astonishment after learning that her father was the legendary serial killer who slaughtered residents in Kansas State during her formative years in her book, which has since been designated one of the New York Times Best-selling novels. Giving hope, sanity, and closure to everyone the incidents had broken for decades—including herself—was something Kerri was more concerned with.

What is Kerri doing now?

Kerri had never agreed with her father’s behavior, even if she had since forgiven him. She was devastated and thought that everything in her life had been a lie. On February 25, 2005, in the late afternoon, an FBI agent approached Kerri and inquired;

Is Dennis Rader your father? “He was detained. In Kansas, your dad is wanted for murders.

Kerri was shocked by what she saw and heard because she had always admired and loved her father and hadn’t expected him to be a murderer.

In one of her appearances with the media, Kerri would confess that she still loves her father despite not agreeing with his behavior. Kerri said in her submission, in part:

“Even though he did all of this, I still love my father and wish I could have just had him,” the speaker said. Sometimes I worry that he is alone in prison, but other times I just can’t, for my mental health.

The newsmen questioned Kerri about how it was possible to think that she and her family were unaware of her father’s affairs and how long this anxiety had persisted. She says, in part;

We both admitted early on that if we had known, we would have screamed out the door and fled to the police. After learning that the man has killed 10 people, you’re not going to sit there and make supper for him, is what we’re saying. We were unaware that we were cohabitating with a psychopath. They are quite adept at concealment. He was a kind, loving father and husband for 90, 95 percent of the 34 years my mom lived with him.

Even though it has been almost 15 years since Kerri and her family learned of their father’s affairs, the anguish has not left her.

She is currently working on a second book about the experience, titled “Breaking Free: Overcoming the Trauma of My Serial Killer Father,” which will be published on October 17, 2023. This book is presently available for pre-order and will be released in hardcover and Audible audiobook formats.

How Kerri Rawson is coping with the news that her father is BTK

Dennis Lynn Rader, Kerri’s father, had a double life as a killer who also served as a loving father, church leader, and Boy Scout leader. As a result, Kerri and her family were unaware that he was the BTK strangler who terrorized their neighborhood until he was caught. Years after the occurrence, Kerri acknowledged that the signs had been there but that their love for her father prevented them from making the connections. Kerri has never agreed with her father’s conduct, even though she still loves him.

Instead, she would share her story of healing through her New York Times Best-selling book, “A Serial Killer’s Daughter: My Story of Faith, Love, and Overcoming,” and she would become a voice for individuals who had experienced abuse, violence, or trauma.

Due to the cyberstalking, she experienced from her father’s thugs, Kerri has stopped associating with her father. At a 2021 session with CrimeCon, she disclosed this. Kerri said in the interview that her father’s followers had harassed and hounded her online, prompting the Kansas Department of Corrections to issue her a legal cease-contact order after providing victim services.

Kerri has insisted that she, her mother, Paula Dietz, and her brother, Brian Rader, are victims even though none of her family members were wounded physically during the lengthy murder episodes. She also said that Dennis Lynn Rader, her father, had stolen many aspects of their humanity and life. She said, in part, “I feel like my father imploded my family,” in an interview. We’ll never be the same because we’re not the same.

This is supported by a story from an internet news source that reads in part as follows:

Her chest tightened up quite a bit. She was unable to work or sleep. In public places like restaurants and churches, she would sob.

As a result of the incident, Kerri was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and only chose to write about it as a means of getting better and moving on. Some of what Kerri said in a letter to her father is contained in her book, “A Serial Killer’s Daughter: My Story of Faith, Love, and Overcoming.”

Should I tell you that you were the light of my life as a child and that I grew up loving you? All I wanted was for you to be in the theater with me, enjoying a tub of buttered popcorn. Yet you aren’t… This won’t be available to you again. How much was it worth?

Kerri still grieves the deaths of her father and the others whose lives he took, and she feels pained by the suffering she has had to go through as a result of her father’s psychopathic actions. She claimed that she frequently asked herself aloud, “Can’t we go back to how things were? They weren’t ever that way, kid.”

Aside from that, stories claim that Kerri’s father, serial killer Dennis Lynn Rader, was found by police using her. To retrieve Kerri’s pap smears and ensure a match, samples were collected from one of her father’s victims’ fingernails. On February 25, 2005, Kerri Rader’s father assured her that everything would be resolved and that he would be released. Dennis Lynn Rader told his daughter Kerri, who was then 26 years old, “All right, love you,” with a look of accomplishment. I’ll see you later. Kerri responded, “Yes, love you too. I’ll see you later.

Dennis Lynn Rader, Kerri Rawson’s father, was ultimately guilty. He received a ten consecutive life sentence for crimes amounting to life imprisonment without parole for 175 years at El Dorado Correctional Institution in June 2005 after being found guilty of all ten murder charges brought against him.
